CNBC: Wealthy investors expect to earn average annual returns of 17.5%—here’s why that may be too optimistic

Writing about a new survey of individual investors from Natixis Investment Managers, CNBC indicated that investors’ expectations of returns was much higher than those of financial advisors as well as historical levels of returns. The article quoted Dave Goodsell, executive director of the Natixis Center for Investor Insight, as saying, “It’s like saying to yourself, ‘The market was good last year and the factors haven’t changed greatly, so I should do the same or better this year.’ But Goodsell says that extrapolating those returns into “your long term expectations of 17% above inflation is pretty, pretty optimistic.” Read more.
